Thoughts of a good Friend Asim Zaidi on Pak Army's role in Pakistan and Pakistani politics
I gathered from my friend that Its Politicians who are ruining Pakistan and Pak Armed forces are our saviors. I agree! The equation should always be like this, but it is not in our country. My point is simple; our political and civic scene has been raped by Military Inc. so badly that we need at least fifty years to come to our senses again. Not so long ago we were told, and our nation believed that USSR wanted to reach our warm waters through Afghanistan and we jumped in fire to stop that advancement. This story was not sold to us via politicians, in fact, it was sold to us after hanging a politician, ten years of tyranny and uniformed absurdness gave us a crop which we are reaping now. Then we were sold the stories like Mr. 10%, Jinnah Pur, an elected PM trying to be Amir-ul-Momaneen, we again bought the stories. Eight years of tyranny, result! yet another crop to reap. Ironically, who did it all is also in London.
People used to laugh at us if we say something bad about Pak Army, but now others have also started seeing that Pak Army is not so innocent and professional and whatever we have been made to believe they were. This is high time we treat them with what they deserve. Show them way to their barracks once and for all.
On the other hand, politicians are from us, live among us and not in separate Cantonment areas. Remember Mulayam Singh Yadav, UP CM three times, one of the power brokers in Indian politics, even he was defeated by a woman, Mayawati. We can do it as well, only if ISI stops meddling with politics, now don’t be naive and say that ISI do not temper with results, IJI is still fresh in our memory.
This is time we should not cut the thorns and branches; we should go for the root of all vices which is Pakistan Army and minions thereof!
How dare COAS say that Pak Army should not be criticized? He is but a servant to the people of Pakistan, same as a traffic constable standing on road. Mr. Sarath Fonseka, the Sri Lankan Army chief, the architect of the military offensive that led to the annihilation of the LTTE, once declared "Greatest General in Sri Lankan History" is behind bars. His ego got better of him and challenged the same political system which bestowed great honor on him. He now pays the price of his foolishness. He will go down in history as a Hero turned villain because the civil society is mature enough to stand behind the political system and any encroaches may it be from the greatest general will always be treated as an encroachment. This is how it should be in Pakistan, and it can only be if we start believing in political system and let it run its course.
